Social distancing (and social distance-SING!) will be practiced throughout the class. The only thing we'll share is our love for making music together! Families should bring a big blanket for their family to sit on. Each blanket will help provide a clear visual boundary for social distancing while we sing, dance, and jam together — but at least 10 feet apart.
We'll email prior to the day of class what instruments to bring from home (can be homemade or "found") and you may want to bring additional items for being outside (water, sunscreen, bug spray, etc). If you'd like to purchase a ready made kit, Music Together has a great kit.
Please try to limit snacking to before or after class or make sure that it is a mess-free snack so park area is kept clean. Please limit drinks to water (bottles of milk are fine as well).
Week 1 is online: Week 1 of the 9-week semester will meet online as we don't have use of the parks until our Week 2. This also gives everyone an opportunity to meet each other first up close and without masks (lol)!
As we know of children this age, it's not age-appropriate to expect them to stay on their blanket. In our in-person and online classes, we ask that you allow them to move freely as we know they're seeing our modeling and hearing our voices singing. In our outdoor classes, we're needing to bend this approach a bit to keep everyone safe. We ask that you move with your child to guide him/her back or away from other families. You know your child best and this offering might not work for every child. Some teachers are describing our blankets as "fish bowls" and creating a game for the children explaining that we need to stay in "our bowl" to sing and play!
Masks will be required during class for adults and children (over age two) when within 6 feet of others. Masks should be worn when arriving/departing class.
Before you leave home: Please do a quick self-assessment and stay home if you or anyone living in your home is showing any one of these symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, other respiratory symptoms or any two of these symptoms: chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat or new loss of taste or smell. Please stay home and schedule an online makeup if you or anyone you’ve been in close contact with has been exposed to COVID-19.
There will be no make-ups or drop-ins in outdoor classes. If your family has to miss a class, you can schedule a make-up in a Zoom class for that week. You are also invited to attend unlimited drop-in classes on Zoom.
Outdoor classes are closed to families not enrolled in the class. Make-ups, drop-ins and free trials will not be allowed in outdoor classes.
Outdoor classes are held on a weather-permitting basis. If we have to cancel due to weather/or other nature-related issue, we will email/text you ASAP to let you know that we'll be having class (at your scheduled time) via Zoom. If it's forecasted to be colder than 50 degrees, we will meet via Zoom. If it's raining 45 minutes before class begins, we will meet via Zoom. If not, we will risk it. (If we get caught in the rain, we'll sing, dance, and run for cover!) We will do our best to alert you via email with as much notice as possible but, if you ever have any questions as to whether we'll be meeting outside or via Zoom, please don't hesitate to text 703-282-4786
Participation in Music Together Outdoors classes requires signing a waiver during the registration process.
We will switch to online classes if VA State mandates changes in current COVID-19 protocols.
There will be no refunds or credits due to outdoor classes moving online.
Maximum ten families per class. Each family unit should have max of three persons (1 adult/2 children or 2 adults/1 child). For families with three children, 1 adult max please.
